Laser Dentistry
Laser dentistry incorporates state-of-the-art technology in various aspects of a dental practice. Although laser dentistry improves the precision of care, not to mention minimizing discomfort and recovery time, the technology has yet to become a mainstream dental tool; in fact, as few as 5% of all dental practices have lasers available in their offices today. At Temple City Dental Care, laser technology has been in our toolbox since 1997. Dr. Von Bulow received laser certification in 1998 and has received continued training from Dr. Robert Barr in San Jose, California
Soft tissue laser care uses a focused beam of light energy to gently debride infected and inflamed gum tissues while eliminating harmful toxins and microbes. The technology also promotes rapid healing and all but eliminates secondary infection. Best of all, the approach is cleansing and comfortable; often, no anesthetic is required. The only protective concern is visual; dental team members and patients always wear protective glasses.
Another laser tool is the Diagnodent; this laser actually detects tooth decay. While visual detection and x-rays are about 50% effective as diagnostic tools, the Diagnodent finds tooth decay with close to 100% efficiency in a matter of seconds and with total comfort.
Many simple surgeries are easily accomplished with laser technology; the advantages being rapid healing, less discomfort, and less expense.
The laser in dentistry is a tremendous tool in the restorative dentistry toolbox.
